Color Blocking

I was reading the blogs that I follow when I came across this design from More Nail Polish.  I immediately thought this to be very cool but also something I thought I could do myself.  Of course, I just did a pastel mani and was not about to do another pink again so soon, so I used my March colors from my Square Hue subscription.

Before we get to that however, we must talk about the snow I got a few days ago.  I ended up with about 8 inches, but it was that heavy wet snow that compacts itself.  If it had been the lighter fluffier snow, I would have gotten closer to 12".  That afternoon, I went outside and played in it, getting soaking wet.  I cleaned off my steps and my car and made sure I could get out of my very long driveway for work the next day.  It just wouldn't do to be from New York and say I got stuck in the snow in Virginia!

Here are some views from that awesome snow day I had.

If you follow behind my car to the road by my crooked tree, you can see how long my driveway is.  The last picture is my front yard.  Isn't the snow beautiful?  I so love it especially when it sticks to the trees!  Later that day though, the wind was really bad and blew it off the trees and I had to take down my very large heavy wind chimes outside so they wouldn't break.

By the next day though, most of this snow is gone.

Now on to today's mani.  Here is the silly bottle shot.

This is China Glaze Ruby Slippers, Square Hue Blond Ale, Amber Lager and Patty's Pint.

Aren't these more my style then pastel?  I started with Amber Ale.  This is a light gold metallic.  Here are the starting shots.

It's not as in your face gold as Cirque Nude.  I am not too opposed to this color.  Now the bummer is, I was so intent on doing the blocking that I neglected to take photos of the steps.

What I did was place striping tape and filled in the spaces with the bronze and green metallics.  I added a dot of Ruby in the middle.  Here is that step,

Obviously this is not as cool as More Nail Polish, but I kind of really like this.  I know most of you will hate what I do next, but it's my thing.  I finished this off with my funky using Ruby.  I think I should have used a more metallic red in keeping with the other colors.

Here are the results.

My lines aren't as skinny as the pastel design I was trying to replicate.  But for my first try, I kind of dig this.  I definitely plan on doing this again. I actually got quite a few compliments at work with this.

Do you like the snow?

Until next time people.  Any thoughts out there?
