Halloween and Hurricanes

As I sit here writing this, the hurricane has not really begun yet.  It is early Sunday morning and the wind has just started to pick up.  I must confess that hurricanes scare the crap out of me.  The very first one I ever encountered was in 1996 and I had just moved from St Louis to Virginia to a town where I knew no one.  That was some kind of scary.  The wind howled all night-it's the sound of the wind that gets me.  I hate that sound.  The next day was to be my very first day as a new RN.  I remember driving in the hurricane, scared to death, but didn't think I should call in on my very first day. Turns out a lot of people did stay home and I was thrown to the wolves so to speak and instead of orientation, I was expected to just do the job.  I guess I made an impression because not long after that, they made me a charge nurse for the second shift.

But that's another story for another time.  This storm is looking to be something fierce and scary.  Perfect for a full moon day and Halloween eh?  I just hope I don't lose power.  That's not ok with me and once again, as a nurse, I am expected to be at work regardless of the weather.  So I will be driving through the worst of it Monday and Tuesday to be at work.  I would rather stay at home with my cats and make sure my house is safe.  Am thinking my crooked leaning tree that withstood last year's hurricane may finally fall during this hurricane.

As you've seen, I really haven't done any Halloween manis this year.  I think it is because last year's was so awesome in my mind that I didn't want to do something less spectacular.  If you want to check out what I did last year, click here and here.

I am hoping you think this year's is just as cool.

Let's start with the silly bottle shot.

Holy Crap-a-moly! That's a buttload of polish right? Check out the colors of the leaves in the background! This is Orly Liquid Vinyl, Lime Crime's Pastelchio, Crema de Limon, Peaches Cream, Once in a blue Mousse and Lavendairy.  Then Bettina Marshmallow and finally Picture Polish White Wedding.

Now I started with Marshmallow with a layer of White Wedding for sparkle and an accent of Liquid Vinyl.  Now with the hurricane planning on being here for days, I really won't have any sun shots for a bit.  Here is the first step.

Unfortunately, the White Wedding can't be seen without the sun.  I meant it to add the sparkle you see on spider webs in the dew.  Oh well.

Next I stamped using plate SDP-N.  Here is that step.

I did use Vinyl for the black and it came out greyish.  I used Sally Hansen Whirlwind White for the black nail.  The greyish actually worked to my advantage.  I next stamped using MASH 38 and Konad Special Black.  Here is that step.

If I had used the same black polish, you wouldn't have seen the spider.  Isn't it creepy looking?  I seriously can't look at my nails right now!

Then I added pastel dots or "bugs" like the ones you find on spider webs.  Here is that step.

Man that spider is creeping me out!!!  I finished this mani with my funky as always using Liquid Vinyl.  Here are the glorious results.

Is this not the coolest thing ever?  I'm thinking that the accent nail is a little better than the rest, but still overall this is one cool mani!  That spider is creeping me out and every time I look down, I think there is a spider there!

Please cross your fingers that the hurricane doesn't wreak too much havoc on the East Coast and that I don't lose power!

Happy Halloween everybody!

Until next time.  Any thoughts out there?

And now for something completely different

I read a lot of fashion magazines.  I have subscriptions to around ten of them, maybe more.  I fancy myself a Chanel/Ralph Lauren kind of person. However, I refuse to pay the exorbitant prices just to have a designer label.  I'd rather spend my money elsewhere (nail polish anyone?).  If I ever won the lottery though, you bet I'd be wearing designer clothes!

A few years ago, I saw the most awesome sandals ever in a magazine I was reading. They were stunning and I HAD to have them.  Something came over me, I didn't care how much they cost, I had to make them mine.  I called two different stores in New York City and finally found a pair in my size.  I was elated!

Why am I telling you all this?  Well, I am part of the Ambassador Program with Tweezerman and I just got my new set of tools to review for this quarter.  To my surprise, they had collaborated with the same designer as my beautiful sandals.  I thought this was a sign to show the world my pretty sandals.

Now for the unveiling-

These are my beautiful sandals.  They don't look like much right now, but wait til I show you them on!  This is also the newest Tweezerman nail file and tweezers with the designer Cynthia Rowley.

Cynthia is known for her colorful patterns and designs.  Let me show you the tools up close.

This is the latest nail file with Cynthia's design on it.  It comes in a cool case so you can throw it in your purse and not have it get all yucky like all my other ones in there with no case!  I think all nail files should have a case!

Here is the new tweezer with Cynthia's spin.  I just love the colors and the dots on this one.  So fashion forward since dots are huge right now.  Maybe I ought to do a dotticure since I haven't lately.......

Whenever I wear my sandals out, I get stares.  When I wore them shoe shopping one day, people kept coming up to me saying how much they loved my sandals.  Here they are on me.

So what do you think?  Aren't these amazing?  The fringe is all along the cord and you can tie these anyway you want.  Up your leg as I have here, or just around your ankle. The looks are endless.  I thought the colorful fringe would go perfect with my new nail file and tweezers!

Cynthia Rowley, if you are reading this, you rock!

Thank you to Tweezerman who not only makes the most amazing tools in the world, they keep pushing the envelope.  They make their tools exciting and you want to show them off.  And they work so well too.  The tweezers are nice and sharp, with a nice angle perfect for getting those hard to reach eyebrow hairs.  I just love them.

You can get your own by clicking here to be taken to the Tweezerman website.

Cool points for you if you know where my title comes from.......

Until next time people. Any thoughts out there?

It's a revisit

The other day I had lunch with a girlfriend whom I hadn't seen in literally ten years.  We had been close and I had missed her.  She moved back to my area and we met up for lunch. It was like no time had passed at all.  It was crazy but nice.  There are always friends you have that no matter how long it's been since you last talked, you can pick right up where you last dropped off.

That lunch gave me an idea.  So far, I have been doing this blog for about a year and a half.  I went all the way back to the beginning to my very first post- and decided to revisit that gorgeous color and add my stamping funky touches that I didn't do back then. Back then, I only did my nails once a week on Sunday.  Can you believe that?  I didn't do any nail art and was using my iphone for a camera.  I was all into describing the color, I didn't tell stories like I do now.

Sometimes it's nice to see how you've progressed, isn't it?  Click here to go back to my very first post.  Scary right?  I didn't have my pose down and it just looks weird compared to now. Almost like it was a whole other person doing it.  Alas, it twas I!

Let's start with the silly bottle shot shall we?

This is Zoya Gemma and Estee Lauder Bete Noire.  I just love Estee's bottle.  So pretty.

I started with Gemma, which is a gorgeous green with purple shimmer, and an accent of Bete Noire.  Bete is a deep blurple and does match the shimmer in Gemma, but my camera is showing this as blue per it's usual MO.  Here are the beginning shots.

So much better this time around eh?  I still LOVE this Gemma. I just love the shimmer in it.  I next stamped with Cheeky plate CH44 and the opposite color.  Here is that step.

Pretty so far right?  I finished it off with my funky.  Here are the results.

Isn't this gorgeous?  It's fun to see how I've improved since the beginning eh?  Just like an old friend you haven't seen in a while.

Hey as an aside, I just discovered the new KOH! Sound collection and REALLY want it, but not enough to pay the exorbitant prices to ship them here to the USA. Is there anyone out there who wants to swap this set for some of my polish collection?  I have indie stuff and regular stuff I was going to add to an upcoming blog sale anyway.  If you are interested, use my contact tab above and let me know!

Until next time people. Any thoughts out there?

Molten Metal

I remember back when I was little, I was shaking out the old school thermometer and accidentally broke it.  What came out was the coolest looking metal I'd ever seen at that time.  Yes I played with it-how was I to know mercury is bad for you?

The polish I am wearing today totally reminded me of that scene from my past.  Freaky how random things remind you of stuff.  Right?  I have shown you most of the new A England Gothic collection.  Today we have #4 of 5.

Here is your silly bottle shot for today.

This is Girly Bits Apparition, A England Dorian Gray and Zoya Electra.  Yup, here is the other Zoya I just had to have from their new Winter collection.

I started with Dorian.  This is one gorgeous molten metal shimmer.  It is gorgeous.  Here are the starting shots.

Isn't this gorgeous?  So freakin stunning.  I next added a layer of Electra, which is a holo bar glitter.  Here is that step.

Ott Lite
Oh how I love holo bar glitter!  Next I added a layer of Apparition.  This is a white and holo glitter with all sorts of shapes and sizes. Here is that step.

Sun

Ott Lite
Oh yeah, it's a happy holo glitter fest!  So blingy and rainbowy in the sun.  I did try to stamp on this, but you couldn't see it.  So I just finished this off with my funky in the original Dorian.  Here are the results.

I just love how the sun reflects off the glitter on this.  It is even more present in real life. This Dorian Gray is just gorgeous.

What do you guys think?

Until next time people.  Any thoughts out there?
