I got Grape on my Jeans

You all know how much I love my Bettina right?  Their names are simple and to the point.  However, I am confused by today's selected polish name.  It just seems wrong and misleading.  Why Bettina?  Why?

First we will be having a history lesson.  Do you know what a daguerreotype is?  No? Why should you care you ask?  Because I care and I want to school you today.  A daguerreotype is the method of photography eons ago where the people had to pose for hours while the image was burned into a plate of metal.  I recently was given several of these of my far distant relatives and they are cool as sh*t!

Here is your daguerreotype silly bottle shot.

The lady on the right is my paternal grandmother's mother.  From the 1800s.  How cool is that?  I just love looking at old photographs and what the people used to wear.  I just love it.

I know, you all are thinking, who gives a crap-can you just get on with the polish please? Yes people-here we go.....

This is Bettina Grape, Girly Bits Cosmic Ocean and Bettina Premium Wash Jeans.  I started with Grape and an accent of Jeans.  Here are those shots.

Wait a minute-I thought this polish was called Grape?  Does this look like purple to you?  Now granted, my camera does not like to show purples but this is color accurate. This is a light blue creme.  Why did they call it Grape?  Oh well.  Jeans is a medium blurple creme and stunning.

Next I stamped with the opposite color, plate SDP-N, added a layer of Cosmic Ocean and topped it off with my funky.  Here are your results.

See that shimmer?  That's the Cosmic Ocean.  Isn't this awesome?  I just love it!

Do you have any old pictures of your ancestors? Can you tell me why this blue is called Grape? Does it even matter?

Until next time people.  Any thoughts out there?

A brown holo sendoff-

I think I told you that I had gotten in a bunch of new holo polish.  Today, we have one that is just gorgeous.  It is stated to be a red wine holo, but to me, it's a deep dark brown holo.

Today's post is also in tribute to my dad's BFF who passed away recently.  He was a really great man and will be sorely missed by my dad and everyone who knew him.

We start with the silly bottle shot.

This is Enchanted Polish Sparkling Red Wine, Barry M Mushroom, Elevation Polish Broad Peak and Max Factor Fantasy Fire.

I started with SRW with an accent of Peak.  Here are the shots of that.

Aren't these two colors gorgeous?  I might see a little red wine in this holo, but mostly it looks like a brown holo which I have been craving.  Broad Peak is a purply brown shimmer and stunning.  Next I stamped with BM07 and Cheeky XXL plate 1.  Then I did a layer of Fantasy Fire and topped it off with my funky.  Here are the results.

I wanted to do something to honor his memory-all I could think of was the peace sign as in rest in peace.  It's probably stupid, but it's all I could think of.  I do love this combination though.  I am swooning over this brown holo!  The Fantasy Fire actually makes it the red it was intended to.

We are so sorry to have lost you and you will never be forgotten.  This one's for you 'The Brain.'

Until next time people.  Any thoughts out there?

Aurora Borealis

Back when I was in 9th grade or so, I went on a camping trip with a classmate's family. It was in Alexandria Bay, NY-the last NY state exit before Canada on I-81.

I remember when it got dark,  I saw the Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights.  I wish I had a camera with me back then.  I remember it being a huge circle in the sky with a rainbow of colors dancing around like a woven rug.  After that, there were ghost like streams passing across the sky.  It lasted for hours.  It was the most incredible thing I have ever seen.  I have never seen it since.  Have you ever seen it?  What did it look like for you?

Why is this relevant you ask?  It really isn't-except for the name of one of the polish in this mani and the holo rainbow goodness that it shows.

You ready for the silly bottle shot?

Once again, we have Elevation Polish Aurora, Avalanche and Xixabangma.  Now don't freak about the Xixa-for some reason the outside of the bottle looks like this all the time, but inside, the polish is a uniform gorgeous army green.

I started with Xixa.  This is a one coater if you're careful.  I'm not so I did two.  The sun would not cooperate for this part of the mani.  I just love this army green creme.  One, because I love green and two, because it matches my front door color!  So that is the background for these shots.

Isn't it crazy how it matches my door?  I think it's awesome!  I just wish I had sun shots of this for you.  Trust me, it's gorgeous!  Next I did a layer of Aurora, which is a sparkly army green and gold polish.  Here is what that step looks like.

Certainly doesn't match my door anymore now does it?  Next I did a layer of Avalanche, which is the most popular polish from this line (I don't agree-but I'm like that!).  It is a holo shimmer with tons of different sized hex holo glitter and holo diamond glitter.  It is glitter-tastic.  I topped it off with my funky in the original Xixa. Here are the glorious results.

Don't you just love holo rainbows?  Now you get why I was talking about the Aurora Borealis.  I am loving the holo shimmer in here.  I didn't try to get a ton of glitter on here-but trust me, there is a TON of it in there.

I am actually loving this Xixa green.  I will need to wear this one again.

Until next time people.  Any thoughts out there?

Burnt Sienna

The fancy new Blogger interface decided to delete this post this morning-so I am attempting to remember what I said and recreate this post!

Growing up, my favorite crayon was Burnt Sienna.  It was the perfect burnt orange brown and was always the one I reached for first.  I think I have found my grown up Burnt Sienna.

I also want to pause and say Happy Birthday to my absolute BFF in the whole world. He and I have been friends since we were 7-now we are 44.  Well technically, I am 43 until April 26.  His birthday is April 18th.  He is 8 days older than me.  Every year on this day, I remember just how lucky I am to have such an awesome BFF.  He is the one who named me Fingers all those years ago.

OK, enough nostalgia for one day.

Here is your silly bottle shot.

This is Elevation Polish Arches and Arches at Sunset.  Arches is the perfect burnt orange brown creme.  It has become my favorite polish in the lineup from this brand.  It actually dries to a rubber finish like some of the Illamasqua do.  I didn't get a shot of that.  But it's there and it's cool.  Arches at Sunset is roughly the same color but with more green and gold.

I started with Arches with an accent nail of Sunset.  Here are your shots.

Swoon!  I am so in love with this color there  are no words.  I didn't want to cover up this gorgeousness too much, so I just stamped with SDP-N and the opposite color and topped it off with my funky. You can't see the design very well in the sun but it shines in the shade. Here are the results.

I did not get a good macro shot for you.  Isn't this stunning?  I am so loving this mani I couldn't stop staring at my nails.

Did you have a favorite crayon growing up?  Happy Birthday to my BFF-he knows who he is.  I'm not naming names here, I don't even name mine!

Until next time people.  Any thoughts out there?
