Helianthophobia

Do I have a good topic for today's discussion!  Never fear, I will explain what the post title means in due time!

We are going to delve into the world of fears today.  Some real, some irrational, some way out there!  I met someone and while we were talking, he mentioned how he is scared of sunflowers.  This is called Helianthophobia, hence my title. There is actually a word for this fear! Now this is someone who can eat sunflower seeds, can look at pictures of sunflowers, has a sunflower tie, but cannot get up close and personal to a full grown sunflower.  Now me being me, I bust out laughing when he told me this story.  This to me, is one of the weirdest fears I can imagine.  I asked him if he thought the sunflower was going to uproot itself and fall over killing him instantly. Nope, the fear is that no flower should grow to be that tall.  I still make fun of him for this and told him that I would continue to do so.

Of course, me being the fair person I am, I had to give him something to make fun of me with.  I have an irrational fear that if I set foot in California, that the state will break off and fall into the ocean.  Why I have this fear and when it started, I have no idea.  I get that it makes no sense, but to me, this fear is very real.  Yes this is as irrational as his sunflower fear and you bet he made fun of me for it.

Many people have many fears.  What makes us have these fears?  Why aren't all of us afraid of heights or snakes?  What makes each one of us have something we are afraid of?  I wonder this sometimes.  We are human and I just wonder what makes us each have unique fears.  Is it genetic?  Is it environment and how we are raised? What do you guys think?

I just had to do a mani that would go along with my sunflower friend.  Here is your silly bottle shot.

This is Hits Hefesto, OPI Can't Find My Czechbook, Elevation Polish Haba Xueshan and Bettina Yellow.

I started with Yellow and an accent of Czechbook.  It didn't seem that the sun would appear, but it did!  You will also notice, I had to seriously nub the nails down to the quick.  As I'm growing out the damaged nail, I am getting peels and splits really bad, but I'm two thirds there!

Here are the starting shots.

The sun was not out at this point.  I next added a layer of Hefesto, because I was hoping the sun would come out.

Oh this is pretty no?  Next I added a layer of Haba.  Yes this is a glitter and yes I recently had a glitter on.  But I did tell you, I have a thing for black and white glitter and don't think you can have too many.  Here is that step.

If you look, there are bits of light blue glitter interspersed.  I love this glitter!  I finished this off with my funky and then the sun came out!  Here are the results.

Kind of can't see the holo anymore, but I do love how this came out!  I didn't think it would be this cool!

What are you afraid of?

Until next time people.  Any thoughts out there?
