Death of a Rut

I've been cruising along tucked nicely away in my little nail polish rut.  I would do my nails, stamp, funky and be on my way.  I have no idea what's happened, but as you have seen lately, I have been doing things I've never done before.

Today is another example of a first for me.  It all started when I was reading the blog Polish All The Nails.  Now there is NO WAY I would ever have the patience to do that intricate of a design, but I thought, maybe I could add a glequin or two just to add to my new found striping tape stuff.  The thing is, when you look at these on a macro level, these qlequins seem huge.  When I got my package in the mail the other day, I was shocked by just how tiny these things really are.

I also really had no idea how to get these to stick or how to really handle them at all.  I did read how others did it, but after the fact.  So several have already fallen off from the day before and some are catching on fabric and I hate that.  That's one of the reasons I'm not a glitter bomb fan. I hate the feeling of roughness on my nails.  So for me, there is going to be a learning curve I hope to tackle for my next post's idea.

Here is your silly bottle shot.

The sun was out in full force so you know that means HOLO TIME!  This is Orly Au Champagne, Enchanted Polish Midnight and Glitter Gal Light as a Feather.

I started with one layer of Orly, my fave white, and a layer of Light for a holo white shimmer.  Here are the starting shots.

So far, no one has been able to create a pure white holo.  You can see the Light changes the white slightly grey.  But it's the closest I have been able to get to white.

Next I added stripes using Midnight after placing striping tape.  I was a little careless at this step and there are lines outside my lines.  Here is that step.

I need to learn how to use an art brush for these thinner stripes. I used the polish brush and that's how it got outside the lines.  Next I added my funky using tape for a straight line.  Here is that step.

This started out in my head as a black and white thing-but you can see it's more shades of grey.  Next I added four glequins in the boxes I created. I used my orangewood and a pool of top coat on a paper plate.  I'd dip the orangewood in the topcoat and pick up each individually.  This is what created the height on the nail that made them fall off. But, it's my first try using them so I'm pretty proud I at least tried it!!!

Here are the results.

Until next time people.  Any thoughts out there?
